Platinum

Platinum

Platinum is a dense white metal that is more rare than gold. It is highly resistant to corrosion and is the most durable metal used in jewelry. Unlike other metals, platinum does not wear thin when it is polished. For this reason it is often used for settings and prongs.

The platinum used in jewelry is usually 95% pure with the remaining 5% consisting of "sister" metals like palladium, or iridium. Platinum jewelry will be stamped "950 Plat" or "Plat."

Care
Platinum can be cleaned using a soft toothbrush and warm, soapy water. Occasional buffing with a soft cloth will maintain the jewelry's luster.
